Thanks Karen! It was hard to break down on the last day—I’d grown attached to having a little shop and it was the perfect size ❤️

What a lovely story for these dark times! Love your work.

Many thanks, Laura. It’s been so important and valuable to me recently to actively weave myself back into the fabric of my community, which has languished since I closed my cafe in late 2021. Connections old and new are fortifying me and bringing me joy in the madness 🙏🏼❤️

Your booth and work are beautiful and extra special! Most people have no idea how much work is involved in setting up a booth like yours. Your booth is a treasure and a reflection of who you are as a person and creator.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words, Michael. I woke up this morning—a month post-festival—reminded of just how special an experience it was; your affirming words land in my soft heart. Btw, I noticed your Gary Snyder quote—he’s a favorite poet of mine, and he used to occasionally read at my cafe/performance space (now long passed) in the 90s. Stanley Kunitz is the poet who, for me, most constantly gives shape and meaning to this beautiful life—do you know his poetry?

Thanks for getting back to me, Trish. My late wife was an artist, and we went to many art festivals together. It was a lot of work setting up our shows, and we were always keeping our fingers crossed for those big sales! We had a lot of fun too!

Our area eventually had a studio tour, where the public could visit the artist in their studio. We loved this idea and concept!

Gary Snyder is still one of my favorite artists. I think I might be a little overwhelmed/ star-struck to meet him in person. I heard he doesn’t really travel anymore. Congratulations on having him in your cafe-what an honor! I have read a little Stanley Kunitz. Can you recommend a book of his to start with? Thanks again!

Thankyou very much for this, I had read about the fair in the run-up to the event and had wondered how you got on.

I am really pleased that it went well. And that you had fun!

Thank you for sharing this story! I’ve never sold in a market before but I’m curious, just wary of the level of work for the outcome. I love every word of this celebration you’re offering!

Trish Overstreet's avatar

Awww, thanks April! I think it’s very much worth experiencing at least once. It’s wonderful to connect with all the different people, who are there for various reasons; you learn about them and about yourself, too ❤️

Trish. I was with you on every word, every magical picture you painted, every interaction. You speak of richness than the 1% likely cannot know. Your respect and celebration of storied history. Your love for the young girl; the average aged woman, and the elderly sage. I know we are all struggling- and I’m so glad you were seen; as you truly saw all the others.

Joyce! Thank you so very much for your heartfelt words—I have really missed you! I’m hoping you’ll send a message here to catch me up on your everything. Big hugs to you!

What a wonderful and inspiring story.

I closed my Etsy shop last year and decided to venture back into the in person craft markets world I was missing the human interaction.

Your story reaffirms that the wonderful, soulful, connections are what feeds, at least my, creative soul.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, the sales pay the bills but human interactions are what fill the creative well, and that’s just as rich.

Best of luck with your art.

Big thanks to you, Diana, for your kind blessings and obvious empathy. I just followed your publication and read some of your essays, very much relating to you and your perspectives. Also, fellow October-loving Virgo here 🍁 (it’s a marvelous liminal space between the lush, hot green of summer and the beautiful desolation of winter (which will be upon us quickly here in Massachusetts). I’ve also been considering closing my Etsy shop, but don’t yet have clarity on the decision. Any further input on the matter is welcome and appreciated. 🙏🏼❤️ All my best, Trish
